INDIANAPOLIS (IN) -- The 2010 CollegeInsider.com
Awards Presentation took place on Friday afternoon
in Indianapolis. Seven national honors were
announced.
LOU HENSON AWARD
Following a season in which he improved in almost
every statistical category, Oakland’s Keith Benson
has been named the winner of the inaugural Lou
Henson Player of the Year Award. In an era when
guard play dominates the college game, the junior
center’s combination of size, length and athleticism
almost makes him a throwback.

LUTE OLSON AWARD
After finishing one of the most distinguished
careers in this history of the storied Kansas
program, Sherron Collins has been named the winner
of the inaugural Lute Olson National Player of the
Year Award.

HUGH DURHAM AWARD
Slow and steady wins the race, such is the case with
Wofford head coach Mike Young. In his eighth season
on the job he claimed the program’s first ever NCAA
Tournament bid by leading the Terriers to both the
Southern Conference regular season and tournament
championships. For his accomplishments Young is the
recipient of the 2010 Hugh Durham Award.

LEFTY DRIESELL AWARD
After a season in which he wrote himself into the
NCAA record books, Mississippi State senior center
Jarvis Varnado has been named the recipient of the
Lefty Driesell Defensive Player of the Year Award.

BEN JOBE AWARD
A great coach can lead a team to success under
adverse conditions, and that's just what Fairfield's
Ed Cooley did this season. His Stags overcame
several injuries to win 23 games, which was one off
the school record. For his accomplishments he is
this year's recipient of the inaugural Ben Jobe
Award.

JIM PHELAN AWARD
In what had been deemed as a rebuilding season,
Jamie Dixon generated what may have been his finest
coaching performance to date. Despite losing four
starters from the previous season’s Elite Eight
team, Pittsburgh won 25 games and was a shot away
from advancing to the Sweet Sixteen this year. That
kind success made Dixon an easy choice as this
year’s recipient of the Jim Phelan National Coach of
the Year Award.

SKIP PROSSER AWARD
Bob Marlin has flown under the radar for much of his
coaching career, but the sustained excellence he’s
generated and the classy way he’s gone about doing
it made him an easy choice for the 2010 Skip Prosser
Man of the Year Award.
