BOSTON
(MA) -- The consensus National Player of the Year,
Tyler Hansbrough continues to rack up the awards. The
2007-08 CollegeInsider.com Player of the Year won
virtually every National Player of the Year honor.
“What makes him special is that nobody will ever
out-work him on the court,” says CollegeInsider.com’s
Matt Drake. “He is relentless, never giving any less
than 100% on every possession. He’s an outstanding
talent, but he separates himself from the rest by his
effort.”
Hansbrough led North Carolina to both the ACC
regular-season and tournament championships this
season, while averaging 23.1 points and 10.5 rebounds
per game. The 6-9 junior from Poplar Bluff, Mo., was
named the ACC player of the year and will be only the
sixth player in school history to have his jersey
retired.
Known for his all-out hustle and physical style of
play, Hansbrough led the Tar Heels with 57 steals and
was credited with drawing 42 charges from opponents.
He was chosen the MVP of the ACC tournament and the
NCAA’s East Regional, where he led the Tar Heels to
their 17th Final Four appearance.
Hansbrough set the UNC record for most free throws
made and is tied for second in league history for free
throws made by an ACC player with 690.
He tied a single-season ACC record by winning seven
player of the week awards. He led his team to a 14-2
record in conference play that clinched the school's
26th ACC regular-season championship.
Hansbrough’s 23 points per game were the highest mark
by a North Carolina player since 1970. |
