THE FASHIONABLE 4
Drexel’s Bruiser Flint became the first head coach in history
to win four Fashion titles. Flint won his first crown in 2001 with
UMass. He won two more with Drexel in 2005 and 2010. That’s the
fifth title for a John Calipari assistant coach, as Orlando Antigua
won the Assistant Coach Tournament in 2014. Calipari has produced
more titles than any other coach in history.
After a six-year hiatus, Willis Wilson (Texas A&M Corpus Christi)
made his second appearance in as many years and the eleventh in his
career, which is the most all-time. Kevin Ollie (UConn) and King
Rice (Monmouth) each made their first trip to the Fashionable 4.
Bacari Alexander (Michigan) was seeking his fourth consecutive
title, but he was out-styled by Steve Robinson (North
Carolina) who claimed his second crown. Robinson also took home the
title in 2011. Houston’s Alvin Brooks made his first-ever appearance
in the Fashionable 4, which was notable because his son (Alvin
Brooks III, Kansas State) advanced to the Fashionable 4 in 2014.
Alvin and AB3 are the only father-son combination to reach the
Fashionable 4.
