With the NCAA tournament fast approaching, most experts have the Indiana Hoosiers on the outside looking in. Michigan State’s win over Michigan all but guarantees that the Big Ten will get at least nine teams in the Big Dance. Indiana has a lot of work to do, in order to make it an even ten.
Any chance the Hoosiers have will start with a win over Rutgers on Wednesday. That would get IU to within a game of .500. In the end, the Hoosiers will likely have to win the Big Ten Tournament, or at least get to the championship game and then hope things break their way.
Right now it’s likely that the only school from the Hoosier State to get an invitation to the NCAA Tournament will be Purdue. That’s disappointing to the local fans, as this year’s NCAA Tournament will be played exclusively in Indiana.
Several Big Ten schools have a great chance to go deep into the tournament, including Illinois, Iowa, Michigan and Ohio State. Any one of the top four teams in the league could make it all the way to the Final Four.
Don’t overlook Maryland, Rutgers, Wisconsin or the Michigan State Spartans who just pulled the upset over rival Michigan. Any one of these teams is fully capable of winning multiple games in the tournament.
And let’s not forget about the hometown favorite Purdue Boilermakers. It’s a well-coached team that could enjoy a little homecourt advantage and make a deep run in March.
The NCAA Tournament will begin on Thursday March 18.
