1- George Mason's magical run:
It is very rare for an underdog college basketball team to progress very far in the NCAA tournament. However, George Mason achieved that very rare feat in 2006 by making it to the Final Four. This made them the first team from the Colonial Athletic Association to accomplish such a feat. George Mason also became the first mid-major team in 27 years to reach the Final Four.
Along their way, they outclassed big teams like Michigan State, North Carolina, and Connecticut. Their victory against Connecticut Huskies is regarded as one of the most memorable games in the history of the tournament. In the end, they lost against the eventual champions Florida Gators in April.
2- NC State's victory against Houston:
It was an amazing moment for NC State when they managed to beat the mighty team of Houston Cougars. It was the second time NC State lifted the national title in the year 1983.
NC State began the game well and was leading at halftime by 33-25. However, the Cougars came out strongly in the second half and had snatched the control of the game in the first 10 minutes to lead by 42-35.
This was followed by NC State's comeback who outscored Houston to tie the game at 52. Lorenzo Charles drove the ball through the hoop for the decisive score with just 2 seconds remaining. And so NC State managed to win by 54-52 in the end.
3- Tyus Edney's drive:
UCLA team was easily winning one game after another in the 1994-95 season. They had an incredible 26-1 record in the regular season and had grabbed the number one seed in the West Region. Everything was going perfectly for UCLA and they were confident of registering their 11th national championship title.
However, the UCLA Bruins came dangerously close to losing against the Missouri team in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament. UCLA was trailing by one when only 4.8 seconds were remaining. That was the moment when Tyus Edney stepped up and saved his team from defeat.
After taking the ball the entire length of the court, Tyus Edney managed to bank the shot in at the buzzer. With that shot, Edney saved the season for UCLA. His team went on to claim their 11th NCAA title after winning over Arkansas in the national championship game.
4- Keith Smart's game-winning shot:
Keith Smart probably wouldn't have been very famous if it hadn't been that game-winning shot of his in the 1987 national championship game.
