NCAAB stands for National Collegiate Athletic Association Basketball, it is a member-led organization that is set on the lifelong successes and well-being of college athletes.
There are 3 divisions in college basketball, they were made to align similar campuses in the areas of competition, philosophy, and opportunity.
The NCAAB is not that unlike the NBA in some regards, you still get NCAAB betting odds, you get fans for specific teams, and players who rock the court every time they step foot on it. But, it’s just a tad shy of the NBA.
One of the teams in the NCAAB is the Norfolk State Spartans, they are an epic team who have quite a legendary roster, and are very good at staying very good.
So, today, let’s learn all about them!
Who Are The Norfolk State Spartans?
The Norfolk State Spartans are the NCAAB team who represent Norfolk State University in Virginia. They play in the NCAA basketball Division I.
As of this moment they compete in the Mid-Eastern Conference. Their coach is Robert Jones and when they do play at home, their home games are based at Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall.
This men’s basketball team does have a bit of fame, as they are most well known for beating the second seeded Missouri in the Division I NCAA men’s basketball tournament in 2012, winning 86 to 84. That occasion was only the 5th time ever that a fifteenth seed beat a second seed!
They have appeared in NCAA Tournaments on 18 different occasions, only 3 of which were at Division I level, the rest at Division II. The Division I games were in 2012, 2021, and 2022. The remaining NCAA tournament appearances for the Spartans were in 1965, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1974, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1994, and 1995.
They have been conference regular season champions for four years, in 2013, 2019, 2021, and 2022. They have also been conference division season champions once, in 2021.
They have been conference tournament champions three times in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in 2012, 2021, and 2022. They have been conference tournament champions fifteen times when in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA)
The CIAA is Division II, and this is why they have both Division I and Division II championships.
Division 1 Results
When in Division II they have been in the MEAC, Which has only really been a recent development for them. This means that they have only appeared in three tournaments for NCAA Division I.
Their record overall for this is 2-3.

Spartans & The NBA
There have been 4 Spartans who have gone on to play in the NBA, these are: Bob Dandridge, Kyle O’Quinn, Ray Epps, and David Pope.
Overall
As you can see, the Spartans have not seen a huge amount of success in championships, but their play is still good, and they have still managed a good couple of upsets where they have been top seeds, in spite of being a pretty mildly rated seed.
Whatever the case, this team has also brewed some pretty great NBA stars as well, and they are worth putting a bet on here and there too!
